Amazon FBA product labels
- Amazon assigns the FNSKU in Seller Central. This tool prints it in your own layout and quantity.
- Label size between 1 × 2 in and 2 × 3 in. All sheet formats Amazon lists (21, 24, 27, 30, 40 and 44 per sheet) and thermal rolls are available.
- Each label shows the FNSKU barcode, the FNSKU as text, the product name and the condition (for example New).
- Leave 0.25 in white space on the sides and 0.125 in at the top and bottom. This layout keeps it automatically.
- Use black on white, non-reflective labels with removable adhesive, printed on a thermal or laser printer at 300 dpi or more. Avoid inkjet.
- Shipment and box labels are not product labels. Always download them from Seller Central.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) item labels
- Every sellable unit needs a scannable 12-digit UPC on its outermost packaging, matching the UPC on your item listing.
- Each variant (size, colour) needs its own UPC.
- Walmart's WFS prep guide says FNSKUs and vendor SKUs are not accepted as the item barcode.
- Do not put item barcodes on the shipping box. The 4 × 6 inbound box and pallet labels are created in Seller Center when you create the inbound order.
- Enter 11 digits to calculate the check digit, or 12 digits to verify it.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Retail product barcodes (EAN-13 / UPC-A)
- EAN-13 is used in most of the world, UPC-A mainly in the USA and Canada. Both carry a GTIN licensed from GS1.
- GS1 allows 80% to 200% of nominal size (X-dimension 0.264–0.660 mm). The tool picks the largest size that fits the label and warns if it has to go smaller.
- Do not shorten the bars on products scanned at a till. Choose a taller label if you see a truncation warning.
- Print black bars on a white background and keep the light margins on both sides clear.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Walmart and Sam's Club supplier labels
- GS1-128 SSCC-18 labels are required on food pallets and on certain PO types, and must match the SSCC sent in your ASN. Walmart recommends them for other shipments.
- Walmart does not provide a label template. The supplier creates the label, and this tool follows the GS1 logistic label layout.
- Put pallet labels on two adjacent sides; this preset prints 2 copies of each SSCC. Put case labels left of centre on the longest side.
- Never print barcodes in red, blue, brown or purple. Black on white is safest.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Target carton labels
- Every carton needs a GS1-128 SSCC-18 label. For palletized freight, put a case UPC or SCC-14 on the cartons and an SSCC label on the pallet.
- The carton label fields are From, To (the DC number and address), PO number, DPCI (department-class-item), Casepack, Style and Color/Size. Ship-to postal code and carrier are optional.
- Use the PO format and label placement from Target's current vendor transportation guide in Partners Online.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
The Home Depot carton and pallet labels
- Use a 4 × 6 in label with the SSCC-18, ship from, ship to, carrier, PO, pallet number and carton count.
- The GS1-128 X-dimension must be 0.020–0.025 in (0.508–0.635 mm), the bars at least 1.25 in tall, with a quiet zone of 10X or 0.25 in. This preset uses 0.508 mm and 31.75 mm bars.
- Pallet labels go midway up the load; carton labels go on the long side.
- Home Depot asks for sample labels for certification before you ship. Send this output for approval first.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Costco pallet and case labels
- Put an SSCC pallet label on all four sides; this preset prints 4 copies of each SSCC.
- For food, case labels use GS1-128 with the lot (AI 10) and dates. Add the content GTIN, count, lot and dates in the Content section.
- Lot and date data supports FSMA traceability and must match your ASN.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Kroger case and pallet labels
- The label must be at least 4 × 6 in with an SSCC-18 barcode.
- Kroger uses the SSCC extension digit as the package type: 0 for a case, 1 for a pallet.
- Fill in the ship from, ship to, PO and carrier zones. Check the current Kroger supplier guide for the remaining fields.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
GS1 Logistic Label
- The global standard used by retailers and logistics providers in Europe and worldwide. The SSCC is the only mandatory element and is always the lowest barcode.
- A6 (105 × 148 mm), 4 × 6 in or A5. The top block holds free text, the middle block data titles and the bottom block the barcodes.
- X-dimension 0.495–0.94 mm, bar height at least 31.75 mm and human-readable text at least 3 mm, with Application Identifiers in brackets.
- Put a label on two adjacent sides of each pallet.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
ITF-14 shipping case labels
- ITF-14 carries a GTIN-14 for outer cases scanned in warehouses and distribution centres, not at the till.
- X-dimension 0.495–1.016 mm, bearer bars around the symbol and a quiet zone of at least 10X.
- Enter 13 digits to calculate the check digit, or 14 digits to verify it.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Internal Code 128 labels
- Code 128 encodes letters, digits and symbols. Use it for SKUs, bins, locations and assets.
- Internal codes are not GTINs. Products sold through retailers need a GS1 barcode.
Barcode numbers (GTIN, UPC, EAN, SSCC) must come from your own GS1 licence or from the marketplace. Requirements change: check the retailer's current routing guide or vendor portal, print a test page and scan it before you ship.
Which label does each retailer ask for?
Marketplaces want a barcode on every sellable unit. Retail distribution centres want a GS1-128 shipping label with an SSCC on every carton or pallet, so they can match it to your advance ship notice (ASN). The presets above set the barcode, size and fields for each case.

What the generator checks for you
Test-scan your labels with your phone
Print one page at 100% scale and scan every label before it goes on a box. With WiScanner, your iPhone or Android sends each scan straight into Excel, Google Sheets or any app on your computer, so you can compare the scanned codes with your ASN or packing list. The same phone then handles receiving and stock counts.
Barcode label generator questions
The presets follow the published requirements of each retailer and the GS1 standards: symbology, size, quiet zones, bar height and fields. Retailers can change their rules and some require label certification, so check their current guide and test-scan a printout before shipping.
From GS1. A GS1 company prefix lets you create GTINs for products and SSCCs for cartons and pallets. Amazon assigns FNSKUs in Seller Central. This tool does not issue numbers; it encodes and prints the ones you own.
The Serial Shipping Container Code is an 18-digit number that identifies one logistic unit, such as a carton or pallet. It is printed as a GS1-128 barcode with AI (00) and sent in your ASN so the receiving DC can match the physical unit to its data.
No. Shipment, box and pallet labels for WFS and FBA are generated by Seller Center and Seller Central for each inbound shipment. Use this tool for the item labels: FNSKU for Amazon and UPC for Walmart.
A thermal or laser printer at 300 dpi or more. Print at 100% / Actual size with margins set to None, and use black on white labels. Amazon advises against inkjet printers for FNSKU labels.
